CONDEMN OF SLAVERY IN ISLAM

Islamic Querries
He will call you to account for your deliberate oaths: for expiation…give a slave his freedom.."[5:89]
In the above verse of Quran Allah (God) commanded to people to free the slaves and give them back their freedom. Similarly in another verse Allah (God) said in Quran."
And whoever kills a believer by mistake, it is ordained that he should free a believing slave.."[4:92]
In this above verse who ever kill a free man by mistake he should free a slave. Now if you see Islam made a slave and a free man equal in the rank. Even a free man killed by mistake. We should free a slave, and these verses reviled on the time when slavery was common between other religions or faiths and slaves treated as animals. In that timw of darkness Islam gave rights to slaves and condemn slavery, made slave equal to free man. In Quran Allah (God) said,
"…But it is righteousness…to spend of your substance out of love for Him…for the ransom of slaves.."[2:177]
In above verse, now its an order to a muslim to spend his money as ransom of a slave to make them free from slavery. Islam ordered to every muslim who have wealth equal to 52.5 grams of silver or above then that to give 2.5 % of his or her wealth in charity every lunar year. One of the use of this charity is to pay the ransom of the slave. Even the Prophet Muhammad SAW condemn the slavery in His speach famous as the last sermon he said,
"There is no superiority for an Arab over a non-Arab and for a non-Arab over an Arab, nor for the white over the black nor for the black over the white except in God-conciousness".
"O’ People! Every Muslim is the brother of every other Muslim, and all the Muslims form one brotherhood. And your slaves; see that you feed them with such food as you eat yourselves, and clothe them with the clothes that you yourselves wear".
In the above saying it is clear that there is no place of slavery in islam evreyone is equal but if you want to see superiority then see God-conciousness in it. It is also mention in Hadith (Prophet saying) that,
"The Prophet said, 'He who has a slave-girl and teaches her good manners and improves her education and then manumits and marries her, will get a double reward". (Al-Hadith--Book Sahi Bukhari)
Now who ever treat slave well and teach her good manner and educate her and then free her and get marry with her will get reward from Allah (God). Islam also focused on the eduction of slaves. This marriage will be on the will of that slave girl not on the will of his master because that master should first free that slave girl then offer her to get married. Now its depend on that girl to get married with that man or not. As mention in Quran,
"…ye…may wed believing girls from among those whom your right hands posses….wed them with the leave of their owners, and give them their dower…"[4:25]
There are many things in the islam which comdumn slavery. I just want to mention one incidence which condemn slavery,
One day the Prophet was sitting with Salman, Bilal, 'Ammar, Suhayb, Khabbab [all ex-slaves] and a group of poor Muslims, when some unbelievers passed from there. When they saw these "unimportant" people with the Prophet, they said, "Have you chosen these persons from among your people? Do you want us to follow them? Has Allah bestowed His favour on them, that they have believed, and not us? You should better remove them from you; if you do so, then perhaps we would follow you." The Prophet did not agree to their demand, and Allah sent the following verse in this respect: And do not drive away those who call upon their Lord in the morning and the evening, they desire only His favour; neither are you answerable for any reckoning of theirs, nor are they answerable for any reckoning of yours, so that you should drive them away and thus be of the unjust. And thus do We try some of them by others so that they say:
"Are these they upon whom Allah has conferred benefit from among us?" Does not Allah know the grateful? (And when those who believe in our signs come to you, say: "Peace be upon you, your Lord has ordained mercy on Himself") (6:52-54)
Salman, Bilal, 'Ammar and their companions say: "When Allah revealed these verses, the Prophet turned towards us, called us to come nearer to him, and said, 'Your lord has ordained mercy on Himself.' Then we used to sit with him, and when he wanted to stand up (and go from there), he did so. Then Allah revealed,
And withhold yourself with those who call on their Lord in the morning and evening desiring His goodwill, and let not your eyes pass from them.. (18:28)"
When this was revealed, the Prophet used to make us sit so near him that our thighs almost touched his thighs; and he did not stand up before us. When we felt that the time had come for him to stand, we took his leave; and then he stood up after we had gone. And he used to say to us, 'I thank God who did not take me out of this world until He ordered me to keep patience with a group of my ummah. I shall spend my life with you, and, after death, shall remain with you.
"I hope this all above discussion give you an idea that Islam strongly condemn slavery. There is not a place of Slavery in Islam.
I hope you all got your answer in it. If you have any more questions you can ask freely.
"May Allah (God) Bless us with His rehma (mercy) and show us the right path". (Ameen)
