"The background of the name of God called Yahweh or Jehovah"
Mostly Jews and Christians who know hebrew they use to call the God as Yehweh or Jehovah. This word is drived from Exodus 3:14 which says; ..
"And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you."
I am in hebrew called Yahweh. So according to this verse Jews assume that Yahweh (I am) is God's characteristic name. Another possible meaning of this verse is "HE". As encyclopedia say;
"The most likely meaning of the name may be “He Brings Into Existence Whatever Exists," but there are many theories and none is regarded as conclusive by scholars."
Now if we look Jehovah in arabic we got the word Ya HUWA possible meaning is "Oh! He". It is the same with Yahweh. Ya HUWA can be use for any one it is not the specific.
Now in the bible there is a story of a begger who was blind and then Jesus gave him eyes. When people know about this incident they started to search him. When people find him they were in doubt that he is the same or not; here the begger use the same word I am Jehovah (I am).
"8:The neighbours therefore, and they which before had seen him that he was blind, said, Is not this he that sat and begged?
9:Some said, This is he: others said, He is like him: but he said, I am he.[John 9:8-9] "
Similarly when first time Moses A.S went on Mount of Tur and saw the fire. And God said to him Moses, Moses amd he also replied with the word Jehovah (I am)
in Exodus 3:4;
"And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I."
So Jehovah is God's characteristic name not His personal name.
Now if we analyse another name of God mentioned in bibele, Metthew 27:46;
"And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?"
The word for God used by Jesus was Eli;
If we just analyse is that Eli is seems like God the answer is NO but;
This Eli is similar with arabic word Allah. When Allah converted in hebrew it become Eli.
So this prove that the personal name of God (the creator) is Allah.
May Allah Increase our Knowledge and forgive my mistakes in this answer and enter us all in His Kingdom of Heaven. (ameen)
